"Wolf has mastered how to turn a memoir into a page turner. (Her) ... story of an emotionally abusive mother and eventual reconciliation combined with a story of medical disasters, will speak to many people. If you are looking for a book on this topic and if you are interested in how (Wolf) crafts a page-turner memoir, then you'll want to check out: My Mother's House by Alexa Wolf."
Women's Memoirs Matilda Butler "Alexa Wolf is an accomplished writer and has received national recognition for her work. " Chuck N. Baker Nevada's Veterans Reporter
"MY MOTHER'S HOUSE is highly recommended for community library memoir collections with a nod to social issues collections as well." Midwest Book Review Mary Cowper Cowper's Corner
[Alexa Wolf is] honest, witty and heartbreaking all at once. I will honestly say that this is a hard book to read because the nature of the material is so saddening but it really gives you something to think about. I have a relationship with my own mother that is turbulent at times (which we both admit to!) and this story really touched us... Desiree B. Difabio "Desiree B DiFabio" The Book Club Queen

I sit in the yard of my mother's house at the rusting white garden table. Rain threatens as I huddle into my coat in the cold, gray morning. Memories once more begin to revive in my flesh. Every trip here calls back my childhood and the anger of my teen years. But another reality co-exists with that time, just as visceral. It's as if there were two of Mother and two of me, our younger selves from decades ago and our loving selves from the last quarter-century, our two relationships from the two eras so different they might belong in parallel universes; and now, our last relationship, her dead self and my mourning one.

About my book:
Starting with the the hostility that exploded in my teens, my mother and I journeyed over the next half-century to a joyful and deeply loving friendship. We exchanged jokes, news items, personal confidences. When she won her battle over "terminal" cancer by combining holistic medicine with conventional, she shared with me her knowledge and experience. When I learned to make jewelry, my mother gave me tremendous support even as, at the same time, she developed a sense of style that caused strangers to come up to her and tell her she was beautiful. (I agreed.) One day I fell in love with, and purchased, a parakeet. But I would not be able to share very much of my wonderful new joy with my mother.
At age eighty-six, she underwent hip replacement surgery. To learn to walk again, my mother entered the skilled care nursing system. She did not leave.
In myth, the dragon is the monster that devours the innocent and steals the gold of the populace. The dragon symbolizes "the system" - the system of power under which we live. In this case, that system is health care for profit.
My mother hurtled toward tragedy. I did not know how to save her.

I have been learning to write for over forty years. This is the story I had to tell and that taught me how to do it.
In fact, the act -- as well as the business -- of writing is another area of learning I wish to share. To see more, please click on writing and marketing links and also read my articles on writing.

Throughout my life I have collected quotes. Last time I moved, I tossed numerous books on which I'd marked those quotes. But I managed to save a few. I've also culled some from television, movies, politics and further sources. Do enjoy my little collection of fun, inspiring and intriguing quotes.
