I'm not an expert in elder care or elder abuse, but I have witnessed the agony of the latter. In my book, MY MOTHER'S HOUSE, A Memoir, I describe what happened to my mother when she entered the nursing care system after hip replacement surgery.
During my mother's six months in the system, I tried to save her. But every new medical or institutional inadequacy or
horror hit me like a body blow, leaving me too much in shock to
anticipate the next event. Sometimes I think that if I'd possessed
beforehand certain crucial information, I might have been able to save
her. But maybe not. The system is critically broken.
However,
during that time and afterwards, I did learn and would like to share a
few things that might help other people’s elderly loved ones survive a
similar hell. See the page Survival Tips.
My new knowledge also includes a few websites that look helpful.
The Links
I've grouped these links roughly, often by their general category. Also, I've combined links for elder care and elder abuse on the same web page because the two are different sides of the same subject. In fact, information on both sometimes appears in the same website for that reason.

http://la4seniors.com At the moment, this website does not open. However, this is not only a local resource. I was able to enter it in the past and found an excellent description of ageism. This prejudice against the the elderly is pervasive and insidious; most people practice it without knowing they do so. This site makes us aware of the existence of ageism; once aware, we can change. The site also offers a gruesome but important discussion of pressure sores. So check it periodically.
