My Little Bird Excerpts

My first book, MY MOTHER'S HOUSE, A Memoir, covers the fifty-plus years of my relationship with my mother. There was no space in that complex tale to say anything about my bird, especially since he only came into my life during the final, terrible six months of my mother's life.

But my parakeet, my little budgie, was always on the desk where I worked on that memoir, and with me when I thought about what happened to my mother and wept. And when he too was gone, in my grief, I had to tell him how I felt about him, and to remind myself of all his little things. And so I began a letter to him, which over time became many letters and enough notes for another memoir, which I am now writing.

The opening pages of this book-in-progress can be found by clicking My Little Bird - Excerpt #1. There are three web pages of excerpts, each leading to the next and all found in the menu as subpages of My Little Bird Excerpts.

During the years I came to know and love my parakeet, I came to love all birds. So I will soon be adding a links and resources page offering links to bird rescue organizations as well as general bird information.

The parakeet, or "budgie," has its own characteristics, but each bird within the species is an individual, a fact so delightful and astounding, these animals so funny and dear, that I also feel I must absolutely share examples of that individuality. So, eventually, I will also add an appendix of emails from other parakeet owners with snippets of tales of their birdies.

I hope you will enjoy all of it on whatever level calls to you.
